Nana Wakasugi was born in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Growing up in the Kassai region Nana was exposed to the ancient Japanese craft of calligraphy from the early age of nine, achieving the top level accolades at the amateur level. Upon completion of university, Nana moved to Toronto, Ontario, to expand her understanding of the English language.
While there, Nana was courted by an Irish gentleman and, after careful deliberation, decided to move to Ireland along with her soon-to-be husband.
She is a self-taught artist seeking inspiration from the artworks around her and the Irish luminaries such as Cecil Maguire and Charles Macauley. to name but a few. Nana has tirelessly worked on adding her artistic interpretation to the landscapes and characters that have inspired her, even extending this artist licence on occasion to the landscapes of the orient.
Nana now resides in Co.Galway and is trying to devote her time to becoming a full-time artist, intending to share her art and experiences in living on this beautiful island.
