Irish born Darren Crowley is a full-time professional international artist since 2001. He has been obsessed with painting, and he creates art every day of his life. He paints in oils and acrylic on canvas and vintage book pages that have been glued together. The old, discoloured pages give a sense of history and intrigue. Many of them are from the 1800s and still have writing, birthday messages, notes, best wishes etc., but from the original owners.
The paintings begin with a base layer of vintage pages onto which the image will begin to emerge. More layers of paper or interesting symbols and fragments are added because it gives depth and tone changes. Darren uses acrylic paint, ink, airbrush and whatever he feels is necessary as the piece progresses.
Darren works from his studio in Ireland, but he travels a lot and paints everywhere he goes. Landscapes, people, objects, anything that catches his eye. It is his way of capturing a little of the energy. Dripping paint, fast brush strokes, splattered droplets combined with precise, delicate brushwork to conjure the finished work. He hopes you will like the paintings as his journey continues.
